CABM (Certified Associate Business Manager) for MBA Aspirants

Two weeks back, I registered for CABM (Certified Associate Business Manager) professional certification and I think it's a good idea to blog about it.

I personally believe, CABM program would give me exposure to foundations prior to bschool, and would help me contribute better in my bschool classroom and in channelizing my energy to bschool's other activities such as clubs, projects, competitions and relatively less on theory.

I also believe, it might also help me mitigating the low/average academic performance, and strengthen my bschool application.

Disclaimer: The above mentioned are my personal views expressed and in no way related to official CABM source/information. For official information about CABM, visit here.

If you are already a CABM or pursuing it, please comment and get in touch.

Happy studying,
A

  2. Hey P, thanks for stopping by. The course is pretty comprehensive and would give you the feel of all bussiness aspects. But having said that, it requires a lot of time to get a good hold of the complete theory. Atleast 4-5 months, i must say.

  3. I agree.I had look at the syllabi.Looks really exhaustive.Did you get a hang of what consulting is all about after going through the CABM??I guess you are an aspiring consultant. The reason I asked about this is because we both share similar interests.:)

  6. P - The APBM has given some 5 top B schools in their university pathways. Do you have idea how much weightage is given for the CABM certification by these schools? Are B schools serious abt the certification or is it a marketing strategy by APBM. I am planning to register for it. Your honest opinion plz.

  7. I have also registered for CABM. The course is too exhaustive as mentioned above. I have finished few modules (There are too many of them). One thing I can say about this course is that , who ever does it will get a good feel of what they are going to face during MBA. APBM has tie ups with some top univs and weightage is given to candidates with CABM. As far as ISB is concerned , if you have a CABM, you directly get an interview call, so you are directly into top 40% of the applicant pool. It wont help you after that , rather if you are not able to show how CABM has helped you in your professional career , it may be considered a negative point and you may miss the admit.
I am struggling to cope up with this course, due to my workload at my office ... so anyone who is also preparing please get in touch and help me out on how to prepare.

  11. Hey guys, I was preparing for CABM couple of months ago and completed a few modules but then the work and bschool applications pressure took over and i had to postpone it. As of now, I'm not studying for it, so could be of much help!

  12. Guys,
The course, undoubtedly,is well designed and covers all the areas of management in detail suited to this level. But while preparing taking the practice quiz, I marked many answers wrong. On probing as to why these were going wrong, I found that there is no material related to these topics.I contacted the APBM authorities but they reverted saying that this is the "challenge" associated with the rigorous exam.On further investigating I found that these questions belonged to the learning objectives of CBM(not CABM) credential, a level above CABM one.I replied to them explaining with example CBM questions which had creeped into CABM quiz.Since then they have not replied on this. This can happen in the exam as well. This could be a fault with the system which is fetching questions from CBM pool and APBM does not want to acknowledge it at this point of time. The other reason could be the malicious one, where APBM wants the candidates to fail in the exam and pay $200 to retake the test and this vicious cycle continues until you lose hope.
My point here was to beware you all and watch out if this is happening during your practice quiz tests as well.Raise it if it does happen.

Also let me know your view points on this.

  13. Thanks for raising this point. Though I am preparing for CABM for quite sometime now, but even I faced the same issue.

I believe APBM must acknowledge this as this course demands a lot of money, time and efforts!

  16. Hi,

I just got to know about CABM. I would like to know how good it is?! I am currently preparing for my GMAT, which am planning to give in late August. And I have a decent academic profile, with 91 and 98 percent in 10th and 12th grades, and 71 percent in college. How much would doing a CABM boost my chances of getting into a college like ISB?

I have not heard of this exam before. But I am quite excited after going through the sylabbus; i find it so interesting.

Kindly provide more information on this.

    Thanks in advance..

  17. Hi Kruthika,

I have contacted one of the career counselors with exactly the questions you have asked.

    He has given following information.

+ 1. CABM helps you in developing business acumen.
+ 2. Good weightage to your CV for B-Schools.

    - 1. It helps only to get a call from B-schools not a direct admission.
    - 2. Very difficult to pass the exam despite the exam board says the pass percentage is 50% (originally 30-40 excluding retakers)
    - 3. It may cause some sort of depression if you can't make it in first 2 attempts.

So, it is your time to take a call on this.
